The walls come down

Finally... all of the walls, interior and exterior are DONE!!! Today the last walls of the old house were demolished and the final layout of the addition can be seen. Below the image is from the new back mud room looking towards the NE corner of the kitchen. The big window to the right is the window above the kitchen sink and the window to the left is the drive through window.

The following image is looking back from the NE corner of the kitchen towards the entrance to the mudroom. The white flush door that is open goes out into the garage and you can see the profile of the old back door just beside this. This door will be removed soon. You can see on the floor where the corner of the old house was and where the new addition begins.

This final image is from the top of the stairs looking towards the SE corner of the family room. There are two sheets opf the P2000 insulation leaning up against the garden door to the back yard.
Hopefully by the end of the day all of the exterior walls will have insulation. It is "too soon" for this in the construction schedule but "not soon enough" according to the inhabitants of the house. The Insulation will be better than the fleece blankets so that is a plus.

The Barn

As previously posted I have had a design for a Barn House since my days at the Faculty of Architecure. I had tried to design a house for my cousins who own a Dairy Farm but as they eloquently told me, "the cows go in the barn". Regardless the barn shape has been there and when it came time to design the addition, the shape seamed right for the garage. To see a larger image of any of the pictures just click on the image and it will show the image full size.

The next two images are again of the garage, just closer and focused on the garage.

On this last image the space where the Barn roof ends and the addition second story begins can be seen. It is in this area that the roof top patio will be located.

Shapes

When the images were only of the walls without the sheathing material and or the roof without the decking, the shape and size of the addition appeared misleading. With both the wall sheathing and the roof on the full addition is truly noticable. To put things in scale and perspective, the white sign above the garage is 4'-0" wide and 2'-6" tall.

This close up is similar to a previous posting but now that it has the sheathing it looks that much bigger!!

To fully represent this elevation I wish that the doors and windows were in. That would again change the look and feel of the back.

Finally this image shows the different changes in the building planes. The 2x6" boards leaning on the bottom corner of the house are 8'-0" long.

The Garage

Slowly but surely the structure is coming together. Beeline was able to get the walls started for the garage so that will;
a) clean the driveway of the last building materials and
b) get the last of the building in place.

Below is a close up of the Gambrel roof trusses of the garage. Yes that is a barn shape and yes the exterior will be barn red.

A roof over our head

It has been a while since I have had an opportunity to post anything. Things have been pretty quiet but that is about to change.

We were able to start the New Year with a roof over our heads. The last of the plywood decking was inplace just before we had the biggest dump of snow of the season so far. That was a nice feeling - it is still cold but this is progress.

The walls of the second floor rooms are to be completed this week / early next. We are hopeful as the schedule is falling even further behind and we would like to have this completed soon. Regardless the electrical rough ins will be started this weekend and the heat ducts should be next week.
