Spring Deck - Fall Design

The current Hydro Meter is located right where the new exterior wall is to be located. As soon as the foundation is done the wall framing will hopefully follow rapidly. To ensure that there are no additional delays, the Hydro Meter needs to be relocated. When I spoke with MB Hydro they suggested that the new temporary meter needs to be located on a 6x6 post with the feed at least 10'-0" to 12'-0" above the ground. I don't want to locate the post just anywhere's so the idea was to incorporate the post as part of the structure for the future deck and pergola. To do that we need to come up with a design as to what the structure might look like. Below is round #1 in the design and who knows this might be the actual build!!!

The Smaller image is of the potential side elevation of the pergola in green in comparison to the renovated house. This definately warrants a deeper design solution - I like it.

P2000 Insulation System

"The P2000 Insulation System is the latest in insulation technology. It is a thin sheet product - with a special foam core and reflective laminates on both sides. Instead of relying on thick layers of insulation to absorb heat and slow down thermal transfer, The P2000 Insulation System has combined the physics of thermal reflective technology with the insulating power of a dense EPS foam core (similar to the foam coffee cup you have trusted for years) to produce unparalleled insulating performance."

The text above was taken directly from http://www.p2000insulation.ca/. We needed to insulate the existing house anyways and if the product performs anywhere near what the claims are we should see and feel a signifigant difference.

Concrete Work

When they excavated the new basement there was limited spots to put the earth. They did hauls away countless truckloads of earth but they needed to leave some for back filling. At least this way we don't have to worry about the low spot on our driveway...

Or the lowspot in the frontyard for that matter. Suprisingly we haven't missed a day of mail - talk about a dedicated Canada Post Employee.

The pile of earth on the driveway changes the perspective of the yard. The perimeter concrete footing is visible in the back ground.

Here the footing is defining where the new basement and addition will be. The rebar sticking up will be the center point of the Logix Blocks and the center of the new basement walls.

Finally the new garden door has been installed in what will be the new Master Bedroom. It is still Joshua's room and he is excited to have this in his room. He has commented a few times that he can "sneak out" but the threat of no Wii for a month will hopefully deter that.

Let the Games Begin

After all of the delays we are finally in a position to start the building process. Today the old garage pad and the back area was excavated making the yard ready for the concrete foundations. Tomorrow the Perimeter footings will be poured (weather permitting - yes there is rain in the forecast) and hopefully the Logix blocks (www.logixicf.com) can be started by the weekend. It looks like we will be able to start framing by the third week in October!

If you are around the neighborhood our house will be real easy to spot. It is the one with the 8'-0" mud pile in the front and back yards.
